As someone who has not run any further than about 7km in their life, the 2027 London Marathon will be a major challenge for me. However, I am not running for me, I am running for my Dad and everyone else who lives with Arthritis everyday.

In 2013 my Dad was diagnosed with Arthritis, a chronic, autoimmune condition. Everyday he lives with extreme joint pain, swelling, and fatigue. To manage his condition he takes immunosuppressant medication, which does help to control the symptoms of the disease, but also means that he is more susceptible to other illnesses. Despite this, my Dad never complains and always puts others above himself. He tries to not let his condition stop him from doing the things he loves, but naturally things have changed.

Before his diagnosis, my dad was an avid runner who competed in many races in our county. He applied to run the London marathon year after year to raise money for Vein of Galen malformation, a life-threatening brain condition my younger sister was born with. He never got the opportunity to do so. Following his diagnosis, my Dad had to give up running and his dream of completing the London marathon.

Arthritis is a debilitating, life-changing condition that can effect every aspect of a persons life, yet it is often an invisible illness that many people know nothing about. I am running the London Marathon in my Dad's honor, but also for everyone living with Arthritis. I hope to raise vital funds for research, treatment and support, while also increasing the awareness of a disease that deserves far greater recognition. 

Crossing the finish line would mean so much to me because it would represent achieving a dream that my dad was never able to fulfil himself. Every mile I run will be for him and for the resilience he has shown every single day since his diagnosis.
