Great North Run

Myself (Sam) and Alex are running the Great North Run in support of my beautiful mum, Nic.

At just 26, my mum became seriously unwell. She was suddenly in constant pain and struggled with everyday tasks like getting dressed or walking. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, affecting all her major joints. Thankfully, with the help of incredible doctors and life-changing medication, she gradually regained her mobility and independence. While RA is a lifelong condition with no cure, ongoing advances in treatment have helped her manage it incredibly well.

Now, 33 years on, my mum is 59 and lives a full, active life - walking, cycling, swimming, gardening, and even travelling around India with me and Alex last year. There have been difficult periods along the way, but thanks to medical progress and continued care, these have been manageable. Without that support, her life, and mine, would look very different.

That’s why we’re raising money to support vital research and help the 1.3 million people living with arthritis in the UK. Just £27 could support a researcher to develop tests to diagnose arthritis earlier. If you’re able to support us, we’d be hugely grateful. Every donation helps make a difference!
