Back in 2022 I started experiencing pain in my shoulders and hands, which gradually became more frequent and more widely spread across my whole body. After numerous trips to the walk in centre, trips to the doctors, private appointments and very very long NHS waiting lists I was finally diagnosed in March 2025. I was at a point where I needed help every day to get dressed, to work and could hardly walk at all.
After months of steroids and trialling many different medications, in January 2026 I finally found a mix of medication that works for me at the moment and has really been life changing. I still have flare ups, struggle to do things I would have considered 'normal' until becoming unwell and live with the the uncertainty of how this disease will continue to impact life in the future.
Despite the negatives, I consider myself to be lucky that most days, although a little more tired and sore than I used to be I can still enjoy life and move my body again thanks to the research and medical advances made.
I am running to create awareness of chronic illnesses, help support others who are still struggling to get a diagnoses and control their disease and with hope that one day a cure is found.
