Great North Run

My Story

Just after my retirement, I started getting pain in my knees and received an osteoarthritis diagnosis.
I am now one of over 10 million adults, young people and children here in the UK who live with arthritis.
I took on this challenge because we do not need to give in to arthritis.
Your donation can help changing lives through providing information, support and research into new treatments.

First 8k run

Friday 10th Jul
Today I managed my first ever 8.5km run. Feeling quite proud, although I felt my arthritic knees at the start. I'm getting closer to half marathon distance :-) and also - thanks to you - to my fundraising goal. Many thanks to all of you, who donated so far. ❤️

First ever 5K run

Wednesday 24th Jun
Today I managed to run for 5K, the first time again after probably thirty years. I am slowly getting more confident that I'll be able to do longer distances, slow and steady. :-)

Thank you for your support

Tuesday 16th Jun
Many, many thanks for your donations so far - already £61/£400, with 12 more weeks to go.I really appreciate this.

I am now in week 7 of my training, working up to 5k in 2 more weeks. Doesn't sound like much, just a quarter of the GNR distance. Still I feel good about my progress so far: two months ago I could only run for about 2 min.:-).

Week 4 of 'running'

Monday 1st Jun
This is me at the end of my 4th week of training. I am getting closer to running 5K. Still much to do but things are going better every week.
