Why I’m running

Monday 21st Sep
I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at birth. This meant that the top of my femur, rather than being a lovely rounded ball was slightly flattened. I’ve suffered with hip pain my whole life, - I didn’t do PE at school, In my early 30s this turned to osteoarthritis. I was often dismissed because ‘I was too young’ By my late 30s I was struggling with severe pain (and a lot of very very strong pain killers). It’s difficult to describe severe arthritic pain, it drags you down, stops you sleeping and has an impact on your whole life. At 42 I had my first hip replacement and 5 years later another one. I love running  since my replacements I’m not as fast. As a result of poor biomechanics my whole life I now have arthritis in my knees. My legs have had had 6 surgeries in total but they keep going. Squat and lunge (the names I gave my replacements) will be 16 and 6 years old when I run GNR.  Arthritis really impacts your life. I’m not sure people always realise how much. That’s why I’m running for arthritis UK
